A 41-year-old man has been taken into custody following a sequence of events that unfolded in the Taunton area this afternoon, Sunday, September 10.
At approximately 16.40 BST, law enforcement officers were dispatched to an address in Norton Fitzwarren after receiving a report of a man who was making threats to an occupant and had caused damage to the property.
Upon the arrival of the officers, the individual departed the address in a sizable military truck. He then proceeded to drive this vehicle into two police cars, which had been positioned to block the road. The collision resulted in extensive damage to the police cars.
Fortunately, no police officers or members of the public sustained injuries during this incident.
Subsequently, the man drove to the A361 M5 over-bridge, where he disembarked from the vehicle and scaled over the railings, leading to the closure of the motorway in both directions.
Approximately 25 minutes later, authorities successfully apprehended the individual, who is now in police custody.
The incident has prompted an ongoing investigation, as authorities work to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the sequence of events and the motivation behind the actions taken by the man.
