Woman Taken to Hospitial after Walworth Tower Block Blaze
A major high-rise fire in south-east London has triggered an urgent response this afternoon, with 70 firefighters and 10 engines deployed to tackle flames tearing through the 11th floor of a residential tower block on Hillingdon Street, Walworth.
Walworth – Public Urged to Avoid Area" width="1920" height="1080">The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed the fire broke out just before 2pm today in a flat within Brawne House on the Brandon Estate. Crews arrived quickly to find the flat “completely alight” on the 11th floor of the 17-storey building.
Resident Escaped Before Crews Arrived
A woman managed to flee the flat before firefighters arrived. There are no reports of injuries at this stage, but the London Ambulance Service remains on standby as a precaution.
Crews Remain at Scene
Firefighters from Dowgate, Dockhead, Soho, Whitechapel and other nearby stations remain on scene as operations continue. The blaze is now under control, but crews are expected to remain at the site to monitor for any flare-ups.
Members of the public are urged to avoid the area due to smoke and congestion, and bus routes are expected to face delays or diversions.
