“We were called today (7 March) at 3:28am to reports of a fire on Stern Close, Barking.

“We sent multiple resources to the scene, including seven ambulance crews, two medics in fast response cars, three incident response officers, one advanced paramedic, and several members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). We also dispatched trauma teams from London’s Air Ambulance.

“Our crews treated seven people at the scene. Very sadly, despite our best efforts, a child was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were taken to a major trauma centre, a person to a local hospital and a further patient was discharged at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young child and everyone affected by this fire. Thank you to all the ambulance crews and our colleagues in the fire brigade and police, who all worked together tirelessly to save lives.”
