Rohan Jeremiah Hicks, 21, of Looe, died in a collision involving two motorcycles on the B3252 at Horningtops, between Looe and Liskeard, around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29.
Rohan’s family has paid tribute to him.
Rohan was tragically killed in a road traffic collision on June 29, 2022,” they said.
He was born in the millennium in Plymouth to an older brother, Callum, and a younger sister, Niamh.
Rohan’s ambition since childhood has been to join the Royal Navy, which he did in 2019.
“Rohan was ecstatic to be a Royal Navy air engineering technician who was currently completing his Leading Hand qualification course.”
Everyone who knew him described him as an ambitious, driven, kind-hearted, annoying, and charismatic gentleman with a wicked sense of humour; he adored his family and friends.
Rohan lived life to the fullest, and his zest for life was contagious.” We have found solace in the kind messages on social media from both his friends and people who knew him, and the family would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
“It appears that Rohan positively impacted many more lives than even his family was aware of.”
We have been devastated by his death, and our lives, as well as the lives of everyone who knew him, will be poorer for his absence.
The Royal Navy has also paid its respects.
“Air Engineering Technician (AET) Rohan Hicks joined the Royal Navy in September 2019 and spent the majority of his career training and serving at RNAS Yeovilton with 815 Squadron,” a spokesman said.
“On 13 June 2022, Rohan transferred from the Wildcat Maritime Force, HMS Heron, to the Royal Navy Air Engineering and Survival School, HMS Sultan, to begin the Leading Air Engineering Technician (Avionics) career course after being selected for promotion.”
“Having previously served on HMS Montrose’s 825 Squadron and 207 Flight, 815 Squadron, he was full of enthusiasm and eager to complete this next phase of training as part of his Royal Navy career.”
Captain Jo Deakin, Commanding Officer of HMS Sultan, stated, “Rohan had exceptionally high personal and professional standards and he had yet to realise his full potential within the Royal Navy.”
“He will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues who cherished his friendship.” We will remember him as a dedicated and passionate sailor, and we are honoured to have had him as a member of our Royal Navy family. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with Rohan’s family and friends.”
Lieutenant Commander Megan Ashton, the Air Engineering Officer of 815 Naval Air Squadron (NAS), stated, “Rohan made a significant contribution to the output of 815 NAS while deployed with 207 Flight onboard HMS Montrose in 2021.
He was a very sociable individual who was eager to participate in all aspects of the flight and life onboard the ship, relishing the opportunities available to him while deployed, such as adventurous training and sports.
“His 207 Flight colleagues and friends will remember him as easygoing and charismatic; he loved football and Formula One.” At this time, our hearts go out to Rohan’s family and friends.”
Officers are still investigating the circumstances of the collision.
