A13 Shut Near Chafford Hundred After Hit-and-Run Crash Leaves Two Injured

Two people have been injured following a multi-vehicle hit-and-run collision on the A13 near Chafford Hundred, prompting a full closure of the eastbound carriageway earlier this morning.

Essex Police were called to the scene at around 6:45am after reports of a pile-up involving multiple vehicles. Officers discovered three vehicles involved in the crash, but confirmed that a fourth vehicle is believed to have fled the scene before police arrived.

Emergency services responded swiftly, and two individuals were taken to hospital with minor injuries, police confirmed.

The incident led to the closure of all three lanes of the A13 eastbound between the A1089 and A1012 junctions, causing major traffic disruption during the morning rush hour.

Crash debris has since been cleared from the road, and authorities have stated that all lanes are expected to reopen shortly.

A police spokesperson said: “We’re continuing to investigate this incident and would urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.”

The incident has sparked renewed concerns about hit-and-run collisions on busy Essex routes, and police are working to identify the vehicle involved in leaving the scene.

Drivers are advised to check local traffic updates before travelling, and anyone with information is asked to contact Essex Police via 101, quoting the incident reference from this morning.
