Drivers are facing significant delays this afternoon after a large oil spillage forced the closure of the A2 eastbound in Kent between the A2018 (Bexley) and M25 Junction 2 (Darenth Interchange).
Traffic is being diverted via local roads, with congestion already building on surrounding routes. Drivers are being advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and consider re-routing or delaying travel if possible.
A spokesperson for National Highways said:
“We are working hard to safely reopen the road but anticipate significant delays while clean-up operations are ongoing. We urge drivers to follow diversion signs and check for updates before setting out.”
Further information and live traffic updates are available via the National Highways website at www.trafficengland.com, travel apps, or through the regional X (formerly Twitter) feed.
For immediate assistance and real-time updates, motorists can also contact the 24/7 National Highways customer service centre on 0300 123 5000.
There is currently no estimated time for reopening, and drivers are urged to avoid the area until further notice.
