A fatal collision involving an Addison Lee taxi has closed parts of the M23 and A23 this morning (Saturday 16 August), causing severe disruption for drivers heading towards London.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Merstham shortly before 6.30am following reports of a serious crash.
The M23 northbound carriageway remains closed between Junctions 8 and 7, with additional closures in place on the A23 northbound between Glebe Road and Dean Lane. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes as long delays continue.
Police have confirmed that at least one person has died, and a full investigation into the circumstances is underway.

The M23 northbound carriageway is currently closed between J8 and J7. There are also closures in place on the A23 northbound between Glebe Road and Dean Lane.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on CCTV, dashcam or helmet camera footage to come forward.
