Arson probe launched following fire at former holiday complex in Ryde

A joint arson probe between Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Police has been launched following a small fire at the derelict Harcourt Sands complex in Ryde this evening (Thursday). Fire crews from Ryde Fire Station are where mobilised to the complex off Puckpool Hill just before 9pm after multiple calls from the public to say that the complex buildings had been set alight. A black smoke cloud could be seen above the area. Crews used a hose reel and a jet to quickly bring the flames under control. The former holiday park has been a target for arsonist in the past during the decade it’s has stood empty and in disrepair. A spokesman for the IWFRS said the causes of the fire were doubtful and an investigation had been started. Anyone who may be able to assist Police with their investigation is asked to can Hampshire Police in 101.
