Eight Fire Engines Respond to Major Fire Above the CEX Store in East Ham

A major fire has broken out at Above CEX store located on High Street North in East Ham, London, this evening of September 19, 2024. The fire has prompted a large-scale response, with eight fire engines and crews from the London Fire Brigade attending the scene.

Emergency services received multiple calls reporting the fire at around 9pm. It is currently unclear if any individuals are trapped or injured.  A large number of emergency services have assembled in car park behind the nearby Primark store.
A Spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with dwellings above on High Street in East Ham.

Part of a four-roomed flat, a loft conversion and a loft conversion roof were alight. There are currently no reports of any injuries.

One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as an observation tower to help fight the fire from above.

Control Officers took the first of five calls regarding the fire at 2015 and the fire was under control by 2258. Crews from East Ham, Brixton, Poplar and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
