A tragic incident unfolded earlier today as an elderly man was hit by a car outside the Tesco Superstore in Elmers End. The victim, who is in his 80s, was rushed to the hospital in a life-threatening condition after the incident occurred in the car park at approximately 1 pm.
Officers from the Met Police quickly responded to the scene, closing off access to the car park to facilitate the landing of an air ambulance. The injured man was immediately transported to a major trauma centre for urgent medical care. His next of kin have been notified about the situation.
The driver of the car involved in the collision stopped at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officials. While investigations into the incident are ongoing, road closures have been implemented to facilitate the ongoing inquiry.
According to a spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service, emergency services were alerted to the incident at 1:08 pm. Ambulance crews, including a medic in a car, two incident response officers, and a clinical team leader, were dispatched to the location. London’s Air Ambulance was also deployed to provide additional critical care support.
We were called at 1.08 pm today (8 September) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in a car park off Croydon Road, Elmers End,” stated the spokesperson. “A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
