Escalating Tensions in the Middle East: US Condemns Iran’s Support for Militant Groups – UKNIP

In a recent statement, US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby accused Iran of continuing to back Hamas and Hezbollah, alleging the provision of munitions, funding, and, in some instances, training. Kirby emphasised the US commitment to thwarting such support, highlighting the growth of military capabilities in the region.

“We are not going to let any threat to our interests in the region go unchallenged,” Kirby asserted. He pointed to recent military actions as evidence of the US’s resolve to protect and defend its interests, stressing the ongoing enhancement of military capabilities.

The Pentagon clarified that there hasn’t been a direct order from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to attack troops in the region. Despite a series of attacks on US bases by suspected Iran-backed groups, the Pentagon emphasised the absence of explicit directives from the Iranian leadership, while holding Iran responsible for supporting militant groups.

Simultaneously, a third convoy of aid trucks entered Gaza, addressing critical humanitarian needs. However, with only three convoys reaching Gaza since October 7, the UN highlighted the urgency of additional aid deliveries, falling significantly short of the daily requirement.

Against this backdrop, Israel intensified its airstrikes on Gaza, targeting hundreds of sites. Gaza’s health ministry reported a significant death toll, with 436 casualties in the past 24 hours. The Israeli military detailed strikes on various targets, including a Hamas fighters’ tunnel and command posts.
