Essex Police have confirmed that a World War Two-era bomb discovered on a construction site in East Tilbury has been safely detonated. The 250-kilogram explosive, believed to have been dropped by the Luftwaffe during the war, was unearthed by construction workers off Station Road at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
The discovery prompted an immediate response as officers secured the area, working alongside multiple agencies to ensure public safety. The Ministry of Defence’s bomb disposal experts were called in to assess the device and devise a safe disposal plan.

A 500-metre exclusion zone was swiftly set up around the site, and a temporary closure of the nearby railway line between Grays and Pitsea was implemented.
