The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched an inquiry into a tragic accident at Bourneview footpath crossing in Kenley, where a child was fatally struck by a train on the morning of 23 January 2025.
Incident Details
At approximately 08:04, the child was crossing the railway at Bourneview footpath crossing, which links two residential areas in Kenley. The child was struck by an oncoming train travelling at around 50 mph (80 km/h) and sustained fatal injuries.
The footpath crossing is equipped with gates on either side of the railway and features signage instructing users on how to cross safely.
RAIB Investigation Launched
The RAIB has confirmed that an independent investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events leading up to the accident.
