Fire Breaks Out at Block of Flats and Restaurant in Peckham

Emergency services are currently responding to a fire incident at a block of flats and a restaurant on Peckham Park Road in south east London. The blaze was reported earlier today (May 29) around 1pm, prompting a swift response from London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.

At present, approximately eight fire engines and 60 firefighters are at the scene, battling the flames. Reports indicate that half of a four-roomed flat on the second floor is engulfed in fire. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

The fire has led to significant disruptions in the area, with the B216 Peckham Park Road blocked in both directions at Green Hundred Road. Additionally, several bus routes have been diverted due to the ongoing emergency response.

London Fire Brigade Control Officers have received 16 calls regarding the blaze, with the first call received at 13:11. Firefighters from multiple stations, including Old Kent Road, New Cross, and Peckham, are on-site to tackle the fire and prevent its spread.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade stated: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are tackling a fire at a block of flats and restaurant on Peckham Park Road in Peckham.”

The situation has also prompted the involvement of London Ambulance Service, which dispatched resources to the scene upon receiving reports of the fire. Ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and members of the hazardous area response team (HART) are currently present at the scene.
