Over 150 firefighters and 20 fire engines are battling a monstrous blaze at factory units in Lower Horseley Fields, Wolverhampton. The dramatic fire broke out late Monday, December 5, sparking a major incident and forcing residents to evacuate.

Explosions and Chaos in the Heart of Wolverhampton

Local residents reported hearing loud bangs that resembled explosions as flames engulfed multiple factory units spanning roughly 200m by 200m. The initial fire was spotted at a derelict factory measuring about 15m by 30m.

Just after 9pm on 5th December, we were called to a large fire at a derelict factory,” said West Midlands Fire Service.

Transport Chaos as Smoke Halts Trains and Roads

The thick smoke has caused major disruption. All trains through Wolverhampton have been stopped, with National Rail warning delays lasting until the end of service. Roads nearby are also closed, and residents are urged to keep windows and doors tightly shut.

Evacuations Underway Amid Growing Danger

  • Residents are being evacuated to two local leisure centres with help from Wolverhampton Council.
  • Fire crews use hydraulic platforms and a High Volume Pumping Unit, drawing water from a nearby canal to control flames.
  • A thermal imaging drone scans the scene, aiding firefighters as they attack the blaze from multiple angles.

“Due to the size of the fire and its proximity to homes and the railway line, a major incident was declared shortly after 10pm,” reported West Midlands Fire Service.

Emergency teams continue to carve firebreaks to stop the inferno spreading further. Residents are warned to stay indoors with doors and windows closed until the crisis eases.
