Firefighters worked heroically to prevent a potential explosion after two adjoining sheds containing gas cylinders caught fire on Wednesday afternoon in Wimbledon.
One man was treated on-site by London Ambulance Service crews, though his condition has not been disclosed.
A spokesperson for the LFB said: “Firefighters cooled a gas cylinder to an ambient temperature as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.” A 50-metre safety cordon was swiftly established, and the road at the junction of Faraday Road and Trinity Road remains closed while firefighters work to secure the area.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes until the scene is declared safe.
The Brigade’s control officers received 10 emergency calls about the fire, which was brought under control by 4:33 PM. Fire crews from Wimbledon, Wandsworth, Mitcham, and nearby stations assisted in the operation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
