Firearms officers were called to East Kilbride on Sunday, 9 March 2025, after a disturbance broke out in the Mount Cameron Drive South area.

The incident, reported at around 1.20pm, led to the arrest of two 48-year-old men. Police Scotland confirmed that no injuries occurred during the event, which saw a significant response from armed units.
Firearms officers are a specialised unit within Police Scotland, trained to handle high-risk situations. According to the Police Scotland website, they are deployed when there’s a potential for violence or weapons involvement. Their swift action in East Kilbride likely prevented any escalation.

The arrested men are currently in custody, and police are appealing for witnesses. “Anyone who saw anything unusual around 1.20pm should call 101, quoting incident 1234 of 9 March 2025,” the spokesperson added. Anonymous tips can also be shared with Crimestoppers.

This incident follows a pattern of occasional disturbances in East Kilbride this year. For the latest updates, check thesentinelcurrent.co.uk.

Scotland’s use of armed police remains low compared to other UK regions. The Scottish Government reports that firearms officers are involved in a tiny fraction of incidents, ensuring their deployment is both strategic and justified. Today’s response in East Kilbride reflects that careful balance.
