A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a 46-year-old woman at a home in Dumont Road, Hackney, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

At 4:57am, emergency services were called to reports of a gas explosion at a residential address with concerns that someone was trapped inside.

Responding officers from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade attended the scene. On entering the property, a woman was discovered suffering from stab wounds. Despite emergency medical treatment, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. He was also found to have slash wounds and has been taken to hospital. Police confirm his condition is neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

Two children, aged 9 and 7, were taken to hospital as a precaution. They are not believed to have been inside the property when the explosion occurred.

Local road closures remain in place around Dumont Road as forensic investigations and structural assessments continue. Additional patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure residents.

Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing and subsequent explosion.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Enquiries are ongoing, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”
