Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has provided further details on their response to a serious crash on the M2 between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham) this evening (February 16, 2025). The motorway remains closed for investigation work following the incident.
Emergency Response & Fire Service Assistance
At 4:47 PM, Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a single-vehicle collision on the coastbound carriageway.
- Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene.
- Crews used specialist rescue tools, including hydraulic spreaders, cutting equipment, and rams, to safely extricate an injured person trapped inside the vehicle.
- The individual was then handed into the care of paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) and a HEMS air ambulance team, which included doctors and advanced paramedics.
Multi-Agency Response
Kent Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside Kent Police, SECAmb, and the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) to manage the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that the M2 remains closed in both directions while accident investigation officers carry out their inquiries. Diversions are in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the area as delays continue.

Kent Police are urging any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
