A serious collision between a car and a motorcycle has resulted in the closure of a major route, causing significant delays for commuters near Dover.
The incident occurred on the London-bound carriageway of the A2, precisely between the Whitfield roundabout and Coldred Hill junction in Lydden, near Dover, at approximately 5:35 PM. Both lanes of the A2 were closed as emergency services responded to the scene of the “serious” crash.
An air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene; however, it has since returned to its base. The collision’s severity necessitated the closure of the A2 in both directions.

As a result, commuters travelling eastbound are experiencing slow-moving traffic as they pass the site of the incident. The vehicles involved in the crash have been moved to the shoulder of the road, allowing for limited traffic flow in the area.
Highways England issued a statement regarding the incident, stating, “The A2 in Kent is closed in both directions between the A260 near Aylesham and A256 near Whitfield due to a serious collision involving a motorcycle.
Although a diversion is in place “via local routes,” no further details regarding alternative routes have been provided by National Highways.
The flow of vehicles is anticipated to return to normal between 9:30 PM and 9:45 PM, though this timeframe is subject to change depending on the ongoing investigation and cleanup efforts.
While the circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation, it has not been confirmed at this time whether anyone involved sustained injuries. The ambulance service has been contacted for comment, and further updates regarding the incident will follow as additional information becomes available.
