A man in his 30s remains in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a lorry at a busy junction in East Ham last week.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Barking Road and High Street South just after 9am on Wednesday, March 12, following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a heavy goods vehicle.
The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene. The pedestrian was treated by paramedics at the roadside before being rushed to a major trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, where he continues to fight for his life.
A Met Police spokesperson said:
“Police were called to Barking Road, E6 at around 09:10hrs on Wednesday, 12 March to reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance. One man in his 30s, the pedestrian, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening. There have been no arrests and enquiries are ongoing.”
Road closures were put in place along Barking Road to Leyton Way and on High Street South, causing delays in the area, but have since been lifted.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added:
“We were called at 9.06am to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Barking Road and High Street North, East Ham. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. Our first paramedics arrived within two minutes. We treated a man and took him to a major trauma centre.”
Police are now appealing for witnesses and any dash cam footage that could assist with their ongoing investigation.
