Officers are appealing for information after it was alleged a woman was sexually assaulted in Tunbridge Wells

A tragic incident on the A252 Canterbury Road between Challock and Charing this morning has claimed the life of a van driver in his 50s. Reports suggest that the fatal crash occurred when the van collided with a detached trailer that had come loose from a flatbed truck.

According to police, the victim was driving a blue Ford Transit on the A252 Canterbury Road shortly before 7 a.m. when the collision took place. Following the incident, the road was shut down between Faversham Road, Charing, and Green Lane, Challock.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the junction with Monkery Lane, but despite their efforts, the Transit driver was pronounced dead on site.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesperson expressed their condolences, stating, “SECAmb were called shortly after 7 a.m. this morning to reports of a road traffic collision near Charing Hill in Ashford. Sadly, despite the efforts of all those involved, the person died at the scene.”

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) of Kent Police is now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to aid in their investigation. The next of kin of the deceased have been notified of the tragic incident.
