Man Jailed Following Failed to Stop Hit and RunFatal Crash in uk/where/north-finchley/">North Finchley
A man has been jailed for a year for causing death by careless driving, driving while uninsured and failing to stop following a road traffic collision in which a moped driver died. Ali Bahramzadeh, 23 of Clifton Gardens, NW11, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, 11 January having earlier pleaded guilty at the same court. He was also disqualified from driving for two and a half years. On the afternoon of 17 November 2016, Bahramzadeh had taken his mother’s vehicle, a Nissan Pixo, without her consent and was driving along with a number of other occupants in the vehicle along Ashurst Road, North Finchley, towards a mini roundabout. At the same time the victim, Alfie O’Keefe-Hedges, 18, from Hatfield, was driving his moped along Buxted Road, towards the same mini roundabout. Bahramzadeh’s vehicle approached the roundabout and went straight on, colliding with Alfie, who was thrown over the vehicle. Following the incident Bahramzadeh and the other occupants decamped from the car and fled the scene. Alfie was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service having suffered a serious head injury. He was conveyed to an east London hospital, where he died on 25 November 2016. A post-mortem took place on 05, December 2016 at Brent and Harrow Public Mortuary, the cause of death given as head injuries At around 23:00hrs on the same day of the incident, Bahramzadeh attended a north London station/">police station where he said that he was driving a vehicle and had hit a moped. He was subsequently arrested and charged in May 2017. None of the other occupants of the vehicle were identified despite attempts to locate them. Detective Constable Rob Simpson, of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We can only hope this sentence brings some small comfort to Alfie’s family, who have been devastated by his loss following Bahramzadeh’s actions. It will hopefully be some reminder to anyone who is driving to pay appropriate care and attention to avoid needless incidents such as this.”
