A murder investigation is underway following the tragic death of a woman in Brean on Wednesday, October 25. Avon & Somerset Police were summoned to a holiday park off Weston Road at approximately 16.50 BST, where they discovered a woman with a significant injury. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced deceased at around 5.20pm
While formal identification is pending, the next of kin has been notified, and they will receive support from a specially trained family liaison officer during this difficult time. A 70-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Neil Meade of the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) expressed condolences to the woman’s family and assured them and the local community of a comprehensive investigation. He stated, “Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next few days, but I would like to reassure them that, at this stage, we believe there is no wider risk to the public and this is an isolated incident.”
For those with questions or concerns, DI Meade encouraged reaching out to uniformed officers or contacting the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. Witnesses or anyone with information relevant to the case are urged to call 101 and provide the reference number 5223261220. Alternatively, information can be shared anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through their Anonymous Online Form.
