Oxford Street was thrown into lockdown in the early hours of New Year’s Day after two men were caught fighting with machetes on the busy thoroughfare.

A large crime scene has been established, with officers conducting a forensic examination of the area in an attempt to recover evidence. Bond Street Underground Station remains closed while investigations continue.
A witness at the scene described the chaos:
“It was terrifying—people were screaming and running. The area was swarming with police and paramedics within minutes.”
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, and they are working to trace the individuals involved.
A police spokesperson at the scene said:
“We were called to Oxford Street at just after 4 a.m. to reports of a fight involving machetes. One man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. A crime scene remains in place, and our enquiries are ongoing.”
Authorities are appealing for anyone with information, mobile phone footage, or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward immediately.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called 4.06am this morning (Wednesday 1 January) to reports of a stabbing incident at the junction of South Malton Street and Oxford Street, W1S.
“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, a member of our Tactical Response Unit and London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first of our crews arrived in four minutes.
“Our crews treated a man at the scene, before taking him to hospital.”
