Collision investigators are urgently appealing for witnesses following the tragic death of a motorcyclist on the M25 motorway. Officers have also issued images of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident but which left the scene, as part of efforts to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The collision was reported to Kent Police shortly before 12:30 PM on Thursday, 26 September 2024. The incident occurred on the clockwise carriageway between junction 5, which connects to the A21 and M26, and the Clacket Lane Services before junction 6.
The crash involved three vehicles: a blue Suzuki motorcycle, a silver Toyota Corolla, and a lorry. The lorry was described as having a white cab and a blue curtain-sided trailer, featuring yellow sign writing. Despite the swift response from emergency patrols and ambulance crews, the motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) of Kent Police is leading the inquiry and is keen to hear from anyone with information about the crash. Detective Inspector Pete Greaves, who is overseeing the investigation, expressed particular interest in tracing the owner of the lorry involved in the incident, as it is possible the driver may not have been aware of the severity of the collision before leaving the scene.
We urge the driver to come forward and contact us as soon as possible. We are also appealing to motorists with dashcam devices to check for any relevant footage, particularly of the vehicles involved or the moments leading up to the collision,” said DI Greaves.
If you have any information or can provide dashcam footage that could assist the investigation, you are encouraged to contact the SCIU at 01622 798538, quoting reference HW/DC/100/24. Alternatively, you can email [email protected], and dashcam footage can be uploaded via the Kent Police and Essex Police online evidence portal.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officers working diligently to piece together what led to the fatal crash.
