Overnight Closure Planned for Dartford Crossing Bridge for Maintenance Works

This morning, commuters travelling via the Dartford Crossing bridge faced significant delays as traffic came to a standstill due to a police incident.

Authorities were alerted to concerns for an individual on the QEII bridge just before 5:20 am today (Friday, May 17). In response, police officers swiftly arrived at the scene to address the situation.

Additionally, RNLI lifeboats from Gravesend were dispatched by HM Coastguard at 5:30 am to provide assistance.

While the bridge has since been reopened, long delays persist in the surrounding area, affecting morning commuters.

A spokesperson for Essex Police confirmed the incident, stating, “The bridge is now fully open. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are currently on the scene of an incident on the Dartford Crossing.

The spokesperson continued, “We had been called to concerns for someone on the bridge shortly before 5:20 am today (Friday, May 17) and have responded. This is an ongoing incident, and traffic is currently being held.

The public is advised to plan alternative routes and remain patient as authorities work to resolve the situation. Further updates will be provided as soon as they become available.

A spokesperson for RNLI lifeboats confirmed their involvement, stating, “Gravesend RNLI Lifeboats were tasked by HM Coastguard to the incident at 5:30 am.
