Mark Taylor, a 48-year-old man, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of rape, sexual assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The harrowing incident occurred last December when Taylor violently attacked a woman during a social gathering at his former home in Front Street, Shotton Colliery.

The victim, whose identity remains confidential, endured a horrifying ordeal lasting approximately 20 minutes. Taylor dragged her to the floor, repeatedly struck her in the face, and then raped her. The woman managed to escape the house after Taylor fell asleep and immediately contacted a family member, who promptly alerted the police.
Detective Constable Adam Abram, who led the investigation, praised the woman’s courage and strength. “Her unwavering support for our investigation has resulted in Taylor being held accountable,” he stated. “While today’s sentencing cannot erase the pain or memories, I hope it empowers her to begin healing. To anyone who has experienced sexual assault, please come forward – you will be heard, and we will believe you. Our specially trained officers are here to support you every step of the way.”
