On Wednesday, a man died as a result of a fire at a house on Dericote Road in Hackney. (11 January) Fire damaged a portion of the first floor of a terraced house. A man was rescued from the first floor via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, and he was treated on the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. Another man was rescued from the first floor and taken to the hospital, where he tragically died. The LFB was called at 9.08 p.m., and the fire was out by 9.56 p.m. Four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters from Bethnal Green, Homerton, and Shoreditch fire stations responded. The fire’s origin is being investigated. It is not thought to be suspicious.
