A2 Closed Between Wrotham Road, Gravesend to M2 at Halfpence Lane, Cobham After Serious Collision

A second person has tragically died following a serious crash on the A2 in Cobham. The incident, which occurred on the coastbound carriageway, involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a lorry.

Kent Police were called to the scene at 4:14 PM on Friday, May 31. According to reports, two lorries were parked on the hard shoulder when the Mercedes Sprinter van collided with one of them. The cause of the crash remains unknown. The lorry driver suffered only minor injuries.

The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 20-year-old man, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a London hospital by air ambulance. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday, June 4.

Both victims’ next of kin have been informed and are receiving support during this difficult time.

Kent Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have seen the vehicles prior to the incident. Witnesses are urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) witness appeal line at 01622 798538, or via email at [email protected], quoting reference EX/HG/058/24.

Additionally, any dashcam footage related to the incident can be submitted through the Kent Police website.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to determining the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
