Seven people have been rushed to hospital after a Tesla crashed into a group of pedestrians outside a Sainsbury’s in Stepney Green, East London.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 5.26pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision in Mile End Road, E1.
We sent a number of resources to the scene including three ambulance crews and a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
The first paramedic arrived in under seven minutes.
We treated seven patients at the scene, all of whom were taken to hospital. Two were taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

Witnesses Describe Chaos

Stunned bystanders looked on in horror as the aftermath of the crash unfolded. One eyewitness described how people rushed to the scene to check on the victims lying on the pavement.

Footage circulating on social media showed the mangled front end of the Tesla, with extensive damage to the bonnet and a trail of debris in front of the store. Others captured images of the destroyed traffic light and lamppost, torn from their foundations.

London Fire Brigade Statement

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving one car, a lamppost, and a traffic light.
One fire engine attended from Shoreditch fire station.
The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received the first call at 7.56pm and the incident was under control by 8.21pm.”

Investigation Underway

Metropolitan Police have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made or if the crash is being treated as deliberate or accidental. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, including whether a mechanical fault or driver error may have been involved.

This horrific crash comes just a day after a young woman was killed in central London when a van ‘flew through the air’ and ploughed into a group of pedestrians near Somerset House.
