Two-Car Collision Closes A20 Roundhill Tunnel in Kent

The A20 Roundhill Tunnel in Kent is currently closed westbound between the A260 near Hawkinge and the M20/A259 near Folkestone following a two-car collision. Emergency services, including Kent Police, are on the scene, along with National Highways Traffic Officers, who are coordinating efforts to manage the incident.

Contractors are also expected to assess potential infrastructure damage within the tunnel, ensuring that the route can be safely reopened.

Diversion Routes in Place

Drivers are being urged to follow the hollow square diversion symbols marked on road signs for the westbound diversion. The route is as follows:

  • Exit the A20: Just before the tunnel at Hawkinge, join Alkham Valley Road.
  • Turn Left at A260: At the A260 junction, join Canterbury Road southbound.
  • Join A259: At the roundabout with the A259, turn right to head westbound and continue toward M20 at Junction 13.

Motorists should allow extra time for their journeys, with delays anticipated in the area. National Highways advises road users to consider re-routing or even delaying travel to avoid congestion.
