Around 7.10 p.m., police received multiple reports of shots being fired at a vehicle on Theaklen Drive.
Shortly after, a report of a man in possession of a firearm was received at Churchill Court in nearby Stonehouse Drive.
Armed units responded to both incidents, aided by specialist officers from neighbouring forces and the National Police Air Service helicopter, in an effort to reduce the threat to the public.
There were no reported injuries.
A man was arrested in connection with the incident, and a firearm was seized. He is still in police custody at this time.
“Due to the nature of the reports we received, it was imperative that we responded accordingly, including calling on our neighbouring forces for support,” Hastings Command Chief Inspector Jayantha Mendis-Gunasekera said.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and we can confirm that this is not a terror-related incident.”
I appreciate this will have been of significant concern to the local community, who can expect to see an increased police presence in the area in the meantime. “There were a number of people in the area around that time and I am urging anyone who saw what happened to please come forward. You can report it online or by dialling 101 and referencing Operation Beaumont. I’d like to thank the officers involved for their prompt assistance, as well as the public for their patience and understanding as our inquiries into this fast-moving investigation continue.
