A London man has been cleared of murder and manslaughter in a brutal acid attack case that shocked Plymouth.
Brian Kalemba Walks Free
Brian Kalemba, 23, was among nine suspects on trial at Winchester Crown Court over the horrific assault on 38-year-old drug dealer Danny Cahalane. Cahalane was attacked at his Plymouth home on 21 February and sadly died in hospital on 3 May. But Judge Ms Justice Norton told jurors there was not enough evidence to convict Kalemba. She directed a not guilty verdict on both murder and manslaughter charges.
Debt and Gang Links Unravelled
The court heard the attack was linked to a massive £120,000 drugs debt to a top dealer known as Ryan Kennedy, aka “Frost”. Kalemba had driven another man, Kelvin Asante, from London to Plymouth on 19 February but left soon after to catch a train back to the capital. The judge confirmed there was no dispute about Kalemba’s early departure, clearing him of involvement in the actual attack.
Others Still Face Trial
The trial continues for eight others, including:
- Paris Wilson, 35, and Jude Hill, 43, both from Plymouth
- Abdulrasheed Adedoja, 23; Israel Augustus, 26; Isanah Sungum, 22; Ramarnee Bakas, 23 — all from London
They face murder and manslaughter charges. Several are also accused of organised crime gang membership and attempted kidnapping. Legal teams are gearing up for closing arguments in the next few days.
