Supermarkets Aldi and Tesco have issued “do not eat” warnings on some of their products this week due to various concerns, including potential glass in food and incorrect use-by dates on meat.
Tesco Recall:
Tesco has recalled its Tesco Sandwich Pickle due to the possible presence of “small pieces of glass.” The affected product is sold in a 295g jar with a batch code of 3254 and a best-before date of September 11, 2025.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised customers who have purchased the pickle not to consume it and to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. Customers can also contact Tesco Customer Services for more information.
A spokesperson for Tesco apologized for any inconvenience caused and urged customers not to consume the product but to return it to the store for a refund.
Aldi Recall:
Aldi shoppers have been warned not to eat two pork products from the supermarket as they are “unsafe to eat” due to incorrect labeling of use-by dates. The affected products are the Ashfields Grill Chinese Pork Loin Steaks and BBQ Pork Loin Steaks, both in 500g packs with use-by dates of June 22.
Aldi has advised customers to return the affected products to their nearest store for a full refund. The company’s supplier issued the recall as a precautionary measure, acknowledging that a small number of products had the incorrect use-by date applied.
What is a Product Recall?
A product recall occurs when there is a problem with a food product that deems it unsuitable for sale. The product may be withdrawn from shelves or recalled, prompting customers to return it. The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about food-related issues.
In some cases, a “Food Alert for Action” is issued, outlining specific actions for local authorities to take on behalf of consumers.
Consumers are urged to stay informed about product recalls and take appropriate action if they have purchased any affected items.
