Armed Police Descend Near School in Calne Before Man’s Arrest
Armed officers were spotted outside a school in Calne, Wiltshire, sparking alarm just moments before a man was arrested, Wiltshire Police confirmed.
Firearms Team Stages at Leisure Centre
Firearms officers gathered at Calne Leisure Centre, close to Kingsbury Green Academy, following reports of a man seen with a weapon. The force revealed the incident was domestic-related and took place at a nearby home on Wednesday afternoon (25 March).
“Due to reports that a man had been seen with a weapon, armed officers responded… the nearest location for their rendezvous point was Calne Leisure Centre, near to Kingsbury Green Academy,” said a spokesperson.
Parents and Residents on Edge
The police presence just after school pickup caused concern among local residents, parents, and children, with worries shared widely on social media.
“Please be reassured that the incident was not related in any way to the school or leisure centre,” the spokesperson added.
Suspect Arrested and Released
- A man in his 20s was arrested and interviewed in connection with the domestic incident.
- He has since been released with no further action taken.
- Officers will visit Kingsbury Green Academy today to offer reassurance to students and staff.
