A 43-year-old drug dealer from Orpington has been locked up for four years after a reckless motorway chase where he tried to ditch drugs from a speeding car on the M20.

Police Chase Ends with Drugs Tossed from Speeding Vehicle

On the evening of Friday 15 November 2024, police spotted Akindele Balogun driving on the M20 near Ashford, Kent. Officers tried to pull him over around 6.30pm because he was suspected of breaching bail conditions. Balogun, already out on licence for drug offences and under probation scrutiny, ignored flashing blue lights and sirens.

He drove dangerously, swerving between lanes and onto the hard shoulder. During the chase, officers saw him hurl white packages out of the window onto the motorway.

Drugs Recovered, Dealer Caught and Charged

  • The police boxed Balogun in and stopped the car safely.
  • Inside, they found two wraps of cocaine and two phones.
  • Four more wraps of Class A drugs were retrieved from the hard shoulder after retracing the chase.
  • He was arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and taken to Folkestone Police Station.

The next day, a search of his home in Emerald House, Orpington, uncovered a stash including a large block of crack cocaine, heroin hidden in clothing pockets and a utility cupboard, plus £450 cash.

Four-Year Sentence Follows Guilty Verdict

After a week-long trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Balogun was found guilty on two counts of possession with intent to supply on 2 February 2026. On 2 March 2026, he was sentenced to four years behind bars.

Detective Constable Martin Aird said: “Balogun showed a clear determination to evade officers and dispose of evidence while driving dangerously on a busy motorway. He put other drivers at risk, and thanks to the quick actions of pursuing officers, the vehicle was safely stopped.

“I welcome the sentence handed down by the justice system, and hope it serves as a warning to anyone considering entering the drug trade and believing they can outrun the consequences.”
