In a significant development, Rishi Sunak’s energy minister, Graham Stuart, has announced his decision to step down from his Cabinet role. His departure is driven by a desire to shift his focus towards addressing local issues that directly impact his constituents.
MP Graham Stuart, who has proudly served in the government for the past eight years, expressed his commitment to continue supporting the prime minister from the back benches. His decision to relinquish his ministerial position places him among a growing list of Tory MPs who have recently announced their resignations ahead of the upcoming general election.
Mr. Stuart initially assumed the role of Minister of State for Climate during Liz Truss’s tenure as prime minister. Although he was reappointed to this position, his Cabinet membership was subsequently revoked when Rishi Sunak assumed the premiership.
As part of the transition, Justin Tomlinson will step into Mr. Stuart’s shoes as the new Secretary for Energy Security and Net Zero. Meanwhile, Andrew Mitchell will take on the honorific title of Deputy Foreign Secretary.
