Police are probing a deadly collision on Thornton Road this morning, leaving a 71-year-old woman dead.
Woman Killed, Taxi Driver Arrested
Officers rushed to the scene at 10:17am on April 11 after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a taxi. Despite emergency treatment, the elderly woman died at the scene. The taxi, a grey Toyota Prius, was driven by a 72-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He suffered injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening and was taken to the hospital.
Road Remains Closed as Witnesses Urgently Sought
Thornton Road remains shut this afternoon while trauma and accident investigators carry out inquiries. The Major Collision Enquiry team is appealing for anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.
