Fire crew called to Queens Road in Shanklin

Retained firefighters from the Isle of Wight fire and rescue service were mobilsed to reports of a fire in Queens Road in Shanklin this evening. The single crew of five firefighters were mobilsed just after 7pm to find that contractors had been carrying out a controlled burn within the grounds of a hotel and had left the bonfire unattended. The crew used a high pressure jet to extinguish the large fire. Contractors returned to find that the fire had been put out.
