Gb News Presenter Calvin Robinson Suspended Amidst Laurence Fox Controversy

GB News finds itself embroiled in yet another controversy as presenter Calvin Robinson becomes the third host to be suspended from the channel following comments made by Laurence Fox on air. The incident has triggered internal inquiries, a regulatory investigation by Ofcom, and widespread public backlash.

The uproar began when actor-turned-political-activist Laurence Fox made derogatory comments about journalist Ava Evans during a GB News broadcast. The remarks, deemed beyond acceptable limits by channel boss Angelos Frangopoulos, prompted the suspension of both Fox and show host Dan Wootton. The internal inquiry and Ofcom investigation received approximately 7,300 complaints.

Calvin Robinson, expressing solidarity with Dan Wootton, took to social media to announce his suspension from GB News. He condemned colleagues with “careerist ambitious” motives, accusing them of exacerbating the situation and contributing to the channel’s potential demise.

Both Wootton and Fox have issued apologies since the incident, with Fox acknowledging that his comments were “demeaning” and not reflective of his true character. Meanwhile, Wootton’s MailOnline column has been axed in light of the controversy and previous allegations related to his conduct.

Channel boss Angelos Frangopoulos expressed horror over the comments, emphasising that they did not align with the values of GB News. He pledged a thorough investigation into the production process, the handling of the interview, and the comments themselves. Frangopoulos extended a personal apology to journalist Ava Evans, the subject of Fox’s derogatory remarks.

While championing free speech, Frangopoulos stressed the need for respectful discourse. He stated that Laurence Fox’s comments went “way past the limits of acceptance,” emphasising the channel’s commitment to appropriate conversations.

As the internal investigation progresses, GB News faces scrutiny not only for the initial comments but also for its handling of the situation. The incident raises questions about the responsibility of media companies in fostering respectful dialogue and maintaining the integrity of public discourse.
