Head on Collision outside Butterfly World in Newport

Emergency services have been called to a collision involving a motorbike and a Ford transit van with a disabled woman in the rear. Staplers Road has been closed in both directions following a head-on collision. A hard closure has been put in place at the Bluebells roundabout. The Isle of Wight air ambulance. has also been called to the incident. The road is likely to be closed for some time. A number nine bus heading for Ryde has also been trapped within the closure. Southern Vectis has warned to expect delays and revisions to the timetables route. Services will now run via Fairlee Road whilst the closure remains. The rider of the red High powered machine is understood to have serious injuries as he was only wearing a helmet and shorts. He is currently being treated by Paramedics and the air ambulance doctor in the rear of the ambulance. UPDATE: The rider has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital following the collision on the fast section of road.
