James Bulger’s mum Denise Fergus is devastated after his grave was smashed up for a second time in just six weeks. The cherished memorial, featuring marble cherubs, has been defaced once more – their heads “scythed off” in a sickening attack.
£20k Raised – But Vandals Strike Again
After the first horrific vandalism in February, an “Army of Heroes” rallied to raise more than £20,000 to repair James’s grave in Merseyside. The two cherubs, placed on either side of his headstone, had their heads replaced with great care. But Denise made a grim discovery at lunchtime – those heads were gone again, smashed by “evil” vandals. She said:
“I am absolutely disgusted that James’ grave has been demolished and devastated again. It has broken our hearts. My heart sank when I found out about it this morning. The cherubs that we had got repaired with great care just a few weeks ago, have once again had their heads scythed off. How evil do you need to be to vandalise and destroy a child’s grave? We must find this person. We have informed the police. We urge anyone with details to come forward.”
Police Hunt for Callous Thugs – Heads Still Missing
Merseyside Police have renewed their appeal, actively hunting for the perpetrators and the missing marble heads. The cruel act has sparked outrage and disbelief from those close to the family. Katie McCreath, part of Denise’s legal team, added:
“Denise is understandably devastated. For any parent, a gravesite is a place of reflection, peace, and remembrance. To have that space violated not once, but repeatedly, is something no family should have to endure. This is more than damage – it’s a deeply personal and emotional violation. The family struggle to comprehend how such cruelty continues decades on. The police have been informed and are dealing with the matter. We will continue to support the family fully as the investigation progresses.”
The community remains stunned by the ongoing attacks on the resting place of the little boy whose tragic death shocked the nation.
