A convicted murderer behind bars for life has landed four extra years after a vicious stabbing spree on a prison officer at HMP Whitemoor.
Prison Officer Stabbed in Head, Neck, Face
Moustapha Dia, 28, launched a surprise attack on a guard as he locked doors in the Cambridgeshire prison on 19 October 2024. Dia whispered something, then suddenly grabbed the officer in a headlock, repeatedly stabbing him in the head, face, and neck with a plastic knife.
The brutal assault only ended when fellow officers intervened and wrestled Dia to the ground.
Victim Treated for Concussion and Cuts
The injured officer was rushed to Peterborough City Hospital. He received treatment for a concussion and multiple cuts. At the time, Dia was already serving life for murdering his sister-in-law.
Jury Convicts Dia After Trial
Dia denied the charges but was found guilty of possession of an offensive weapon in prison and wounding with intent at the Huntingdon trial in January. A judge slapped on an additional four years in March, stacking this onto his life sentence.
“This ferocious and cowardly attack targeted an officer smaller in stature,” said investigating officer DC Emma Purser. “Prison staff face tough challenges daily, and this assault will no doubt leave lasting psychological scars. Dia intended far worse harm than the injuries suffered.”

HMP Whitemoor – Home to England’s Most Dangerous
The high-security Cambridgeshire prison houses some of the country’s most violent offenders. Dia’s extra time behind bars reflects the gravity of attacking an officer doing routine prison duties.
