Major Search Underway For Man Trapped In Vehicle During Severe Flooding In Aberdeenshire

A frantic search operation is currently underway in the Aberdeenshire village of Marykirk, following reports that a man is trapped in a vehicle submerged in floodwater. Coastguard helicopters and coastal rescue teams have been mobilised to assist in the rescue efforts, alongside other emergency service agencies.

The alarm was raised at approximately 03:00, prompting a swift response from local authorities. A Police Scotland spokesperson has urged the public to avoid the area for their own safety, as multi-agency searches continue.

In an interview with BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland, Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston of Police Scotland emphasised the immense challenges faced by officers and agencies on the ground due to the extreme weather conditions. He assured the public that the force is working closely with their emergency service partners and other agencies to provide the best possible support to the flood-hit communities.

Expressing his gratitude to those who have adhered to travel advice, Assistant Chief Constable Houston emphasised the severity of the situation. He stated, “The red warning is still in effect, and significant flooding issues pose a genuine threat to life. I urge everyone to exercise caution and heed the warnings by refraining from traveling into areas specifically affected by this extreme weather.”
