Man detained under mental health act following Police officer stabbing

  A 43-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a Hampshire police officer, has been released from custody, but remains under investigation.

The man has been detained under Section 2 of the Mental Health Act.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Churchill Way, Basingstoke at around 4.30pm on April 12. Officers had attended the address to respond to a concern for welfare. During an interaction with the suspect, the officer, who is in his 20s, was stabbed with two knives, causing injuries to his head, neck and hands. The officer was discharged from hospital on April 13 and is now at home recovering with family
