A Leeds man has been jailed for 15 months after brutally assaulting a man in Southport, leaving him unconscious with serious injuries.
Southport Assault Leaves Victim Hospitalised
Jacob Hutchingson, 30, from Nineveh Gardens, Leeds, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 20 March. He pleaded guilty to two charges: Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and Section 18 – wounding with intent.
The attack happened on Sunday, 6 April 2025. Hutchingson knocked his victim — a man in his 30s — unconscious, then stamped on his ankle and stomach. Emergency services rushed the victim to hospital, where he was treated for a broken ankle and other injuries.
Police Catch Suspect After CCTV and Public Appeal
Merseyside Police launched an investigation involving CCTV footage and a public appeal. This led to Hutchinson’s arrest shortly after.
“I was not confident going out by myself when I was on crutches and it took several months to try and get that confidence back,” said the victim in a Victim Personal Statement. “I was scared to bump into my attacker, unable to remember their face so every male that looked at me I thought it was him. I am still worried going out with my friends into Southport day and night.”
Detective Reacts to Sentence
Detective Constable Immy Mahmood commented: “This was a nasty assault that left a man in hospital with serious injuries. It’s only right that Hutchingson is now spending time in prison, where I hope he will reflect on his appalling actions during this night.”
