Big Prison Sentence for Crime Boss
A 36-year-old man has been slammed with a hefty jail term after cops uncovered a massive cannabis factory hidden inside the old Aspers casino in Northampton. Mantas Piparas, who has no fixed address, copped his sentence at Northampton Crown Court on February 13.
Piparas pleaded guilty to producing a Class B drug and was locked up for three years and nine months for his role in this huge illegal operation.
Police Smash Open Doors to Find £3 Million Pot Stash
Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team stormed the building on Commercial Street on October 30, 2025, using chainsaws to break in. What they found was staggering:
- More than 7,971 cannabis plants are spread over three floors.
- A highly organised and well-protected grow-op, with entry points bricked up and rooms steel-reinforced to keep the police out.
- An estimated street value between £2.4 and £3.2 million.
Organised Crime’s Dark Side Exposed
Chief Inspector Nic Davis-Lyons didn’t hold back on the dangers of such criminal setups:
“This was a large scale, highly organised criminal operation, and this sentencing shows that those involved will be held to account. The lengths taken to secure the site and keep police out highlight just how determined these individuals were to continue their criminal activity.
“The scale of this setup demonstrates the wider harm that organised crime brings into our communities, from exploitation to serious safety risks. I’m proud of the work carried out by our officers to bring down one of the biggest cannabis factories in the county’s history, and we will continue to disrupt those who profit from criminality.”
A Win for Northampton Police
The raid and subsequent sentencing send a clear message: crime won’t pay in Northampton. Thanks to the bold efforts of the local police, one of the biggest cannabis grow-ops in the area’s history has been shut down, and those responsible are now behind bars.
