Metropolitan Police Step Up Patrols to Reassure Jewish Community During High Holy Days

As Jewish Londoners mark the start of the High Holy Days, the Metropolitan Police have announced an increase in patrols around synagogues and key locations across the city to ensure the safety and well-being of the community. This comes amid heightened concerns about antisemitic hate crimes, which have increased since October 7, 2023.

The High Holy Days are a significant period for reflection, family, and community gathering. However, due to recent events, safety concerns have risen for many Jewish Londoners, prompting a visible boost in police presence to provide reassurance.

Officers will be patrolling in larger numbers, both in uniform and plainclothes, especially in areas with a significant Jewish population. This increased presence aims to provide reassurance and act as a visible deterrent during this crucial period.

The Metropolitan Police are working closely with community members and partners, including the Community Security Trust, to offer support and advice. Officers will be visiting synagogues and community venues to understand concerns and explain security measures.

“We want Jewish Londoners to feel confident that we are working tirelessly to keep them safe,” the statement reads. Please be alert, but not alarmed. We want you to be able to enjoy this time of year knowing that we are here to support you.

The public is encouraged to stay vigilant. If anyone sees or hears something suspicious, they are urged to contact the police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
