A Ramsgate man has been hit with 13 charges after a chaotic afternoon of violence, threats, and antisocial behaviour rocked the town on Tuesday 24 March 2025.

Shop Theft Sparks Assault and Racial Abuse

Around 4pm, the trouble started at a shop on Addington Street. The man allegedly tried to nick alcohol but when confronted, he reportedly assaulted two staff members and hurled racist abuse.

Criminal Damage and Threats on Queen Street

An hour later, the same man turned up at an office on Queen Street, where he allegedly caused criminal damage and threatened staff members, ramping up the tension.

Arrest and Court Appearance

Police swooped on Broad Street and arrested Jesse Lewis, 38, from James Street, Gillingham. At Margate Police Station, Lewis is said to have verbally abused officers.

He now faces 13 serious charges, including threats to kill, affray, robbery, and racially aggravated criminal damage.

Lewis appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on 26 March 2026 and has been remanded in custody. His next hearing is scheduled at Canterbury Crown Court on 27 April 2026.
